The New EMC-Directive must be complied with not later than July 20, 2009
In addition to conformity with safety, energy efficiency and radiofrequency requirements, electrical equipment must function faultlessly together with other devices in its intended environment. Undisturbed function guarantees the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of devices used in the same environment. In other words, an electrical device must not disturb its environment and it must sufficiently withstand disturbance from the environment. The EMC directive, which was renewed in 2007, brought with it new obligations for companies and the directive must be observed for all products not later than July 20, 2009.
Fixed installations, test results
In addition to electrical equipment, the EMC directive is valid for fixed installations, for which there is no transition period. The technical construction file required by the Directive, requires in praxis always also test results. Due to the increasing use of electronics an increasing number of products fall under the Directive. Almost all products are under the scope of the Directive with a few exceptions. Electronics is on its parts in most products at home as well as in offices and industry (e.g. IT products, consumers’ products, household appliances, photometric products, regulating and monitoring devices, machinery, etc).
SGS Fimko Notified Body under the EMC Directive
In addition to the technical construction file, the EMC Directive also requires a Notified Body. As a Notified Body SGS Fimko tests and confirms the compliance of products for the European Union market.
You can ensure efficiently your products’ conformity with the EMC Directive for the European market with the help of SGS Fimko’s services. SGS Fimko tests products also for the EMC requirements of other countries and can obtain the certifications or approvals of these countries with e.g. international CB EMC certificates.
