Extension of SGS Fimko s CB scope to rechargeable batteries and cells of portable consumer products
SGS Fimko’s scope for mutual recognition of test results under the IECEE CB Scheme was extended to include batteries, e.g. mobile phone batteries, laptop PC batteries, camera batteries. At the same time SGS Taiwan, which is one of SGS Fimko’s CB laboratories, was granted competence for the same testing area. SGS is now able to offer its customers globally recognized battery testing and corresponding certifications, e.g. SGS GS and FI mark and CB, which support marketing of the product and safety management. We offer CB, SGS GS and FI certifications in a cost-effective package.
SGS FI mark can be obtained with CB certificate without re-testing
In addition to CB testing and certification an excellent way to ensure the safety of a batteries, is to obtain SGS GS and FI certifications. The SGS GS and FI certifications can be based on a CB certificate and it requires annual factory inspections to make sure the company’s capability of uniform quality production. With the help of random tests SGS Fimko monitors the safety of SGS GS and FI certified products on the market.
Battery related risks
Rechargeable batteries that do not function in a correct way can cause burns and fire hazard. On the website http://www.fi-merkki.fi/english/index.php under topic News there are two videos about overheating of batteries. One of the videos shows the function of a safe battery under fault conditions and the other the function of a defect battery under fault conditions.
Critical component of Batteries - Cell certification
As the cell is the critical component of a rechargeable battery, all CB laboratories must make sure that the cell is in accordance with the relevant safety requirements. SGS Fimko and SGS Taiwan offer safety certification services for rechargeable cells. In the same way as for battery certification services, we offer CB and FI and GS certifications in a cost-effective package so that SGS FI and SGS GS marks can be granted without re-testing.
